Helen Joseph Armstrong is by far the top authority on the subject (I can verify this because I had the honor of having her as my mentor in Fashion School!). Her book is and has been the Patternmaking bible for over 20 years, and it’s used as textbook at major Universities.
As a fashion professional, even having a basic understanding of patterns can make a huge difference, as a garment that’s ill fitting will most likely end up on the sale rack (or even worse, a return)… Having the language to discuss issues with your pattern makers, tech designers and contractors, will go a long way and save you countless headaches.
